The Ministry of Finance has proposed an 88 percent increase in Road Tolls to the Ministry of Roads and Highways for reintroduction of the Toll’s Amendment Fees and Charges.
Government in the 2023 Budget Statement and Economic Policy hinted at reintroducing the road tolls with the Ministry of Finance seeking to amend the fees and charges Act 2022, Act 1080 through a Legislative Instrument.
In a memo, the Finance Ministry said it has initiated steps to provide a foundational rate for tolling of roads and Highways as part of the amendment of the Act.
Government in the 2022 Budget announced the cessation of the collection of road tolls to be replaced with the introduction and implementation of the Electronic Transfer Levy which popularly became known as E-Levy.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU) says it has no issue with the reintroduction of road tolls with new charges.
Speaking to GBC NEWS, the General-Secretary, Godfred Abulbire, said the proposed increase is insignificant.
He said the suspension of the collection of the road toll was to be replaced with the e-levy and other taxes to make up for the shortfall in Government Revenue.
However, since government could not realize the expected revenue from the measures, the reintroduction of the road toll and the proposed fees will not have any impact on the operations of members.
