Fire guts building at Police Headquarters

By Juliet Mettle-Edmonds

An office full of armories at the National Operations Department of the Ghana Police Headquarters in Accra caught fire on Thursday morning.

The Ghana National Fire Service says investigations will begin to determine the cause of the inferno.

According to reports, the fire started in one of the offices of the National Operations Department at about 2 minutes past 9 on Thursday morning.

Being right next door to the Police Headquarters, the Ghana National Fire Service says it got to the scene within 1 minute, which prevented the fire from spreading to other offices in the building.

In the course of fighting the fire, there were explosions from tear gas, but no casualties were recorded.

Two fire tenders from the Fire Service headquarters and one from the Flagstaff House were on the scene.

It took the firefighters half an hour to completely put out the fire.

Some of the armories were destroyed. The GNFS said investigations will begin to determine the circumstances that led to the fire.
