Fish processors cry for extension officers

The Programme Officer of Development Action Association and Business Service Advocacy Challenge Fund, Mrs Nancy Otu has called on government to as a matter of urgency post fish processing extension officers to the Ga South Municipal Assembly to improve the business of fishers in the area.
She noted that the old methods in fish processing are not sustainable as they cannot meet the needs of an increasing population.
At a stakeholder forum in Accra, the Programme Officer of the Association, Nancy Ayesua Otu said extension officers who understand post-harvest fish processing should be posted to the area to help the women improve their businesses.
Development Action Association, a network of farmers and fishers mostly women  in the Ga South Municipal Assembly in collaboration with Business Service Advocacy Challenge Fund is helping to promote quality fish processing techniques to improve on the income of the people.
It is aimed at reducing poverty and empowering the people for active participation in sustainable development.
The Service Provider of Development Action Association, Nii Tackie-Otoo, said government’s focus in the fishing industry is towards the upstream which is affecting the downstream activities.
The acting Ga South Municipal Planning Officer, Dela Sasu said the Assembly will collaborate with the Ministry of Fisheries to find a solution to the problem.
