Food production in the Ashanti Region this year is being threatened due to erratic rainfall pattern during the major farming season.

Some District Directors of Agriculture have expressed fear that, if the low rainfall is not adequately compensated during the minor season from September, particularly maize and rice production could substantially suffer.

In an interview with Correspondent Nicholas Osei-Wusu, the Ejura-Sekyedumase Municipal Agric Director, Ben Adda Leo expressed worry that already, there is hike in the price of maize due to low yields of the crop in the last farming season.

For his part, the Sekyere Kumawu District Agric Director, Godfrey Appiah Acheampong, said farmers have become apprehensive about the unpredictable rainfall fearing that their labour may not yield the desired results.
