An Accra high court presided over by Justice Kyei Baffour has admitted into evidence three caution statements by former Chairman of the National Communications Authority, (NCA), Eugene Baffoe Bonnie allegedly confessing that he together with four others benefitted financially from the purchase of the 4 million Pegasus security equipment for the state.

The court said that the three statements given by Mr. Baffoe-Bonnie on May 19, 2017, were done in the presence of his lawyer and an independent witness as required by law.

The court, however, did not admit three other caution statements given by Mr. Baffoe-Bonnie on May 9 and 10, 2017, on the grounds that they were given without the presence of an independent witness as required by law.

The decision of the court was to cement the outcome of a mini trial to determine whether to admit six other caution statements that the prosecution wanted to tender as evidence.
The case has been adjourned to the 4th of next month.

Mr. Baffoe-Bonnie is standing trial with William Tetteh Tevie, a former Director-General of the NCA, Nana Owusu Ensaw, a former board member, Alhaji Salifu Mimina Osman, a former Deputy National Security Coordinator, and a businessman, George Derek Oppong.

They are standing trial for their alleged involvement in the embezzlement of $4 million of state funds during the purchase of listening devices for the National Security, which was sponsored by the NCA.
