Parker Wilson who is with an Accra based Radio “Joy FM” reports that he was slapped by the security detail, leaving him with bruises on his face.

Explaining the incident, Parker said he has been covering Mahama’s five-day tour of the Greater Accra Region, but encountered problems with his security detail when the former president took his campaign to the Pentecost University.

He said after speaking to the students, it was announced that Mr. Mahama was going to meet the authorities of the university.

As a journalist, Parker tried to follow up to cover what Mr. Mahama would be discussing with the school’s authorities, however,

, he was stopped by one of the security details.

Despite explaining that he was a journalist and had been covering activities of the former president, his explanation was ignored.

Mr. Mahama has since rendered an apology to the assaulted journalist and has promised to cater for his medical bills.

Meanwhile, a statement from the office of the former President signed spokesperson for JDM campagn, James Agyenim Boateng shortly after the incident said the issue is being investigated.

The attack on Wilson comes at a time when another Joy News journalist Latif Iddrisu is nursing a cracked skull after being assaulted by police personnel early this year.

The Ghana Journalists Association, (GJA) in a statement signed by its President, Affail Monney described the incident as unfortunate because former President Mahama is a man of high respect and great honour.
