Some four (4) persons believed to be linked to Mondays Disturbances at the Tamale Teaching Hospital, were this  afternoon arrested by a joint team of military and the police. They are being currently held at the Northern Regional Police Command for questioning.

Confirming the news to the media in Tamale, the PRO of the Northern Regional Police Command, DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, said the four suspects were arrested at a base of the Kandahar boys in the metropolis.

Mondays Disturbances followed a series of allegations levelled against the CEO of the hospital, Dr. David Akolbila ranging from incompetence, misuse of hospital funds and some corruption allegations. As a result, some irate youth numbering ten besieged the hospital, chased the CEO out and locked his office. They also alleged that under the CEO’s watch, the Tamale Teaching Hospital keeps deteriorating.

The action has resulted in a strike action by doctors, lab technicians, nurses and midwives, for fear of their personal safety.

The PRO of the Northern Regional police command, DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko   said for now, it is not certain whether the four persons arrested are part of those who chased the CEO out on Monday. He said the CEO has therefore been invited to the station for identification.

DSP Tanko said the police has commenced investigations and the the suspects will be screened stressing that those found culpable will be prosecuted.

DSP Tanko, mentioned that the police has located the home of one Baba Alhassan who spoke on behalf of the group at Changli, a suburb of Tamale as investigations proceeds.

Meanwhile, the Northern Regional Security Council REGSEC,  this morning held a crunch meeting with doctors, nurses and paramedics at the Tamale Teaching Hospital. The health workers have withdrawn OPD and other services in protest of the attack on its CEO,  Dr. David Akolbila.

They are demanding action after the CEO was chased out of his office Monday morning by some irate youth. Though the meeting was successful, it is however, not clear whether the health staff will return to work anytime soon.
