Police say they have interdicted the Body Guard of MP for Madina Francis Xavier-Sosu for alleged misconduct.

He is alleged to have recklessly driven into a crowd after a protest last Monday, October 25, 2021, in the Madina Constituency directly endangering the lives of two Senior Officers and other civilians.

The two officers have officially reported the incident to the Police Administration for investigations and possible disciplinary action. The Parliamentary Protection Unit has been tasked to assign a new guard to the MP.

Investigations.

Meanwhile, the Ghana Police Service says it has commenced investigations into certain alleged criminal acts that occurred following a protest in the Madina Constituency, led by MP for the area Francis Xavier-Sosu.

Mr. Xavier-Sosu was invited on the day of the protest to assist the Police for his alleged involvement in the unlawful blockade of a road and the destruction of property but declined the invitation. The MP again declined another invitation citing Parliamentary privilege.

A statement by the Police said three other persons have been interrogated on the matter and they will continue to use every legal means to interrogate all other suspects including the MP. The Police noted that stories circulating on social media that some personnel had been dispatched to arrest the MP at a church service on Sunday, October 31, 2021, are untrue.

It said any plain-clothed personnel found on the premises of the Church may have been there for intelligence purposes and not to effect an arrest.

The Police Administration says it will continue to conduct investigations into the matter and urged the public to continue to support them to maintain law and order.
