Ga State calls for peace in Somey Traditional Area for development

By Edzorna Francis Mensah

Ga State in the Greater Accra Region has called on the Chiefs and the people of Somey Traditional Area to allow peace and unity to prevail to pave the way for growth and development in the area.

According to Ga Chiefs, without unity, there will not be development, and “even in the house, if the father and the mother are not united, there will not be development for the children; likewise, in a community without unity, no development will come to that community. So it is said that a divided house cannot stand”.

The Wulomo for Asere Traditional Area of the Ga State, who also doubles as the President of the GaDangme Council of Wulomuei Numo Blafo Akotia Omaetu III, who was speaking as the guest speaker of the Accra launching of 2023 Someytutu Za under the theme: “Unifying all of Some for her total development”, believed that, for the Somey Traditional Area to have gotten to this point, “all stakeholders including the Chiefs and Elders have had to surmount different kinds of challenges, some of which you have overlooked due to your understanding of the character of the human being or human nature”.

He said that without that magnanimity of heart, there would not have been unity, and without unity, you would not have gotten this far in peace, as certain Traditional Areas are in turmoil, and when it comes to such programmes as festivals in those areas, tensions rise because the peace of the area may be breached.

He also emphasised the fact that the Ga people and the people of the Volta Region have had a very ancient and healthy relationship dating back several centuries, either to protect each other from external aggression as in times of war or for commerce, that is, trading amongst the two people.

“Today is an opportunity for me to reaffirm that relationship in the 21st Century. It is worth noting that the Aneho people of Togo are Gas, who now only speak the Eve language, but all their names are Ga names.

Numo Blafo used the occasion to congratulate the good people of Some but urged all citizens of the Traditional Area to rally behind Paramount Chief, Torgbuiga Adama III, and all the Divisional Chiefs and Elders to ensure unity amongst them so that they can achieve the development that they all crave for the Somey Traditional Area.
