GACC identify gaps in Public Institution Electronic Procurement Information Reporting

Communications Officer for GACC, Faustina Djabatey

A study by the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition, GACC, has revealed that many Public institutions failed to publish their procurement information on the Ghana Electronic Procurement System (GHANEPS) which is a mandatory site where all issues related to government procurement are made available.

To this end, GACC is tasking Journalists and Civil Society Organizations, CSOs to probe and ask the necessary questions about why some publishing institutions have failed to make disclosures.

It is against this backdrop that the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC) has organized a Procurement 2nd Data Use Workshop in Accra under the theme: “From Disclosure to Impact-Deepening and Broadening Contracting in Africa.” The workshop was to build the capacity of the media and CSOs to better appreciate the issues and help disseminate to the understanding of the public.

In a presentation, the Communications Officer for GACC, Faustina Djabatey indicated some gains made, regarding improvement, so far as the lack of information on contracts awarded by State Institutions posted on GHANEPS site are concerned as compared to the previous year.

”The report’s findings, she stated, focused on contracts awarded in the health and education sectors and that, it clearly indicates that there was an information gap in terms of disclosure on contracts awarded”, she posited.

Ms. Djabatey however, entreated GHANEPS to work on the information gaps on contracts awarded in order to help promote disclosure, enhance public participation, ensure value for money and ensure competition in public contracting processes.

The Executive Secretary of the Ghana Anti-Corruption Coalition (GACC), Mrs. Beauty Emefa Narteh disclosed that it is pushing for a Coalition to ”ensure transparency and accountability in the area of good governance”, adding that, ”we believe in partnership building to enhance engagement”.
