GBA Annual Conference Opens in Koforidua

The Attorney General and Minister for Justice, Gloria Akuffo, says the use of technology will provide efficient and competitive edge adding that guidelines, rules and regulations should be put in place to deal promptly and decisively with any misconduct that may occur in the use of ICT.

Ms. Gloria Akuffo was addressing the opening session of this year’s Annual General Meeting of the Ghana Bar Association, (GBA)  at Koforidua in the Eastern Region on the theme, “The impact of technology on the practice of law; to move with the changing times”.

She pledged her outfit’s support to collaborate with the executives of the Bar, the judiciary and other stakeholders to ensure the full automated and digitized justice delivery system.

The National President of the Ghana Bar Association, Benson Kwabena Nutsukpui, reminded members to be guided by their code of conduct and rules to make the profession more vibrant.

He called for the re-accreditation of all law faculties in the country to enhance effective teaching learning and asked the government to resource tertiary institutions to enable them to accommodate the high number of students to be churned out under the free SHS policy.

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo who was a past regional president of the Association, graced the oppening of the conference.

He urged Members of the Bar to be the natural champions of a law-based state, whose institutions should be solid enough to sanction effectively vigilantism, bank frauds, cyber frauds, sharp practice, illegal mining, unlawful exports of fertilisers and oil products, identity thefts, stealing of public funds, bribery and corruption, criminal cartels, and criminal behaviour in general.

The occasion was used to honour Justice William Atuguba for his 23 years of dedicated service to the nation. He was conferred with the honour of outstanding performance, commitment to duty and the distinctive contribution to the country’s Judicial System.
