The Director-General of GBC, Professor Amin Alhassan, has appealed to Government to help tackle land encroachment at the Corporation’s main transmission sites at Adjangote in the Greater Accra Region.

Professor Alhassan said encroachers have been excavating the hills of the sites, a development if not handled properly can cause a total shutdown of the transmitters, including that of other private stations.

“We would have wished we would give you a tour of Adjangote, all mighty Adjangote but we will not be able to make it. However, the problems at Adjangote have to do with land encroachment. Adjangote is sitting on the hill, like all similar stations across the capital,” Prof Alhassan lamented.

“Encroachers have been digging under the hill, and we think that if there are land shifts in the area the entire national television system will shut down including tools and equipment and installations of the National Security because at Adjangote, we have the National Security, we have GBC and several other television stations using the space and if that space is compromised we would have a national crisis,” he added.

“We think that this matter should be a matter of concern not just for the Ministry of Information but also for the Ministry of National Security, we need to solve this problem at Adjangote quickly,” he said.

The Director-General said the situation is of grave concern and could become a national crisis as the Corporation serves the entire nation.

Professor Alhassan made the appeal when a delegation from the Ministry of Information, Parliamentary Select Committee on Communications and the National Media Commission paid a working visit to Broadcasting House in Accra.
