GBC to set up Radio Stations in the six newly created Regions

GBC is to set up Regional Radio Stations in the six newly created regions in the country.

The move forms part of efforts to enhance freedom of expression, deepen democracy and promote local businesses in the six new regions.

Minister for Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, announced this at the inauguration of Naya Radio at Yendi.

Naya Radio, operating on the frequency of 92.9 MHz, is the 17th FM operated by the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation.

The new station will broadcast in Dagbanli, Konkomba and Bassare and is expected to enhance access to information along the Eastern Corridor of Ghana. Speaking at the inauguration of Naya in Yendi, Mr. Oppong Nkrumah, identified the critical role of radio in national development.

He therefore appealed to staff of the newly created station to use the medium to educate the people, promote peace and avoid using provocative language on air.

Chairman of the National Media Commission, Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo, stressed the need for ghanaian language broadcasting, and expressed the hope that, Naya FM, will contribute towards the freedom of expression.

With the inauguration of Naya FM, all attention now turns to Bawku, where GBC is working around the clock to open another FM station.
