Ghana Armed Forces ready to counter threat of terrorism- LT. COL. Daniel Nash Adjetey

The Commander of the Third Garrison of Infantry, LT. Col. Daniel Nash Adjetey has assured Ghanaians that the Ghana Armed Forces is doing everything in its power, to counter the emerging threat of terrorism in the country.

Giving his end of year message at the 2019 edition of the West African Soldiers Social Activity, (WASSA) at the Liberation Barracks in Sunyani, he said the Ghana Armed Forces will be working hand in hand with the other security agencies to combat crime and also protect the citizenry from criminal attacks.

On terrorism, the Commander said it is an emerging threat to the security of the African continent and assured Ghanaians of the military’s preparedness to secure Ghana’s borders from terrorist attacks.

He also called for support from the public to help the military with information especially to aid them protect the country from terrorism.

“I wish to remind all that this is a campaign we must all get involved. Let us all join in the fight to defeat the terrorist and their medieval ideology by being a little more conscious about our environment. Let us be determined to assist the security forces by sharing information with them and showing interest in people and happenings around us.”

For his part, the GOC of the Central Command, Brigadier General Joseph Aduko Aphour, charged personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces to be disciplined in discharging their duties as any act of indiscipline from them tends to put the hard earned reputation of the Forces into disrepute.

The Deputy Bono Regional, Minister Siaka Stevens assured the Forces of the Regional Coordinating Council’s support. Awards were presented to deserving personnel for their hard work and dedication to the Ghana Armed Forces.

WASSA is an annual programme organised by the Ghana Armed Forces to round up the year with fun filled activities. The event also serves as a platform to plan the future of the Forces. This year’s edition was no different, as patrons were treated to good live band music, food and drinks.

Other activities included amusement swimming, inter Company Blindfold Stripping and assembling of M16 rifles and inter Company changing parade.

The celebration brought together the hierarchy of the Security Agencies including the rank and file of the Ghana Armed Forces, government officials, traditional authorities from in and around Sunyani, heads of institutions and religious figures. Certificates were awarded to deserving personnel for their hard work and dedication to the Ghana Armed Forces.
