A Renowned Private legal practitioner, Tony Forson has been elected new President of the Ghana Bar Association (GBA).
Mr. Forson beat Efua Ghartey and Charles Zwennes in a stiff contest on Thursday, September 13 2018, at the GBA’s 2018/19 Annual General Conference in Koforidua in the Eastern Region.
He takes over from Benson Nutsukpui, whose tenure has come to an end.
Mr. William Oduro emerged victorious as the Vice-President and Yaw Boafo Ayeboafo as Secretary.
Mr. Gyau Baffour is now the Assistant Secretary while Yaa Gyakobo is the Public Relations Officer (PRO) and Saviour Kudze the Assistant PRO.
The General GBA Conference which was held under the theme: “The impact of technology on the practice of Law Positioning The Legal Profession and the Judiciary to move with the changing Times” was earlier addressed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
He urged Members of the Bar to be the natural champions of a law-based state, whose institutions should be solid enough to sanction effectively vigilantism, bank frauds, cyber frauds, sharp practice, illegal mining, unlawful exports of fertilisers and oil products, identity thefts, stealing of public funds, bribery and corruption, criminal cartels, and criminal behaviour in general.
“The employment of technology to the practice of law and the administration of justice will help facilitate the nation’s ability to reach these goals,” he added.
