The National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP) for Ningo-Prampram Constituency in the Greater Accra region, Mr. Sam Nartey George has hinted that the President, Mr. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo does not deserve any praise for the re-opening of Ghana’s land and sea borders.

According to the Ningo-Prampram lawmaker, the borders should have been opened about a year ago alleging that the President has destroyed the economic fabric of the people living in Aflao by closing the borders.

Mr. Sam George made these comments when he appeared on the “Scoop” a segment on the GTV Breakfast Show  Monday, March 28, 2022, while reacting to the government austerity measures and the President’s 28th televised nation address on Update on Coronavirus (COVID 19).

The President, Nana Addo Dankwa  Akufo-Addo on Sunday, March 27  2022, announced the reopening of Ghana’s Sea and Land borders which were shut in the wake of the COVID-19 outbreak will be opened beginning Monday, March 28, 2020.

The MP for Ningo-Prampram Constituency insisted that the President’s announcement of the opening of Ghana’s Sea and Land borders is much ado about nothing. saying people whose lives depend solely on cross-border business are worse affected by the long closure of the borders.

He claimed that as of yesterday, Ghana was the only country in sub-Saharan Africa that had its land and sea borders closed.

“It will take a bit of time for businesses and lives to bounce back. You cannot just expect that people whose livelihood depends on the borders can immediately revive their business at the opening,” the Ningo-Prampram lawmaker reiterated.
