The Ghana Health Service (GHS), has commenced the medical screening of children in all basic schools in the Greater Accra Region as part of the “My First Day at School” event.

The exercise, which was introduced in the previous academic year, will see health personnel check the height, weight, nutritional status and oral cavity of children in about three thousand kindergartens in both public and private schools in the region.

Greater Accra Regional Deputy Director of Nursing Services, Comfort Kwegyir Aggrey who disclosed this said the screening is aimed at detecting possible abnormalities in the body makeup of the children to enable swift and prompt management.

Madam Aggrey who spoke to Radio Ghana ahead of one such screening at the Nima Cluster of Schools said the exercise will continue till the end of the term considering the huge numbers of the children.
