The Proprietor of Street Academy, Ataa Lartey, has called for intensified awareness creation on streetism, as Ghana joins the rest of the world to mark International Day for street children today.

Reports indicate that about 61, 492 children are on the streets of Accra struggling to make ends meet.

Most of them are exposed to severe behavioural and health risks including substance and alcohol use, sexual harassment and rape, violence and violent-related behaviours among others.

These findings underscore the need for an effective community parenting programme that focuses on parental and proactive family reconciliation skills, and the provision of supportive structures to help the youth access health and mental risk service from providers.

However, speaking to GBC NEWS, Ataa Lartey said there is the need for more groups and philanthropists to complement Governments efforts in taking the children off the street.
