The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), has asked the Judicial Service to reverse a publication it issued cautioning the media to desist from publishing what it described as offensive statements.

Lawyers of the Judicial Service last week issued a statement warning the media against what it called insightful comments against judges hearing the election petition and ordered the deletion of certain comments from some media websites.

Speaking at a News Conference in Accra, the President of GJA, Roland Affail said the threats by the Judicial Service are an assault on media freedom.

He said if the threat is not withdrawn immediately, it can pollute the media space and undermine the country’s media rankings globally.

He, therefore, urged the media to be calm and be decorous in their pronouncement to avoid scandalizing the Apex court.

For his part, the Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper, Kwesi Pratt, said the statement by the Judicial Service is a vague threat to journalists, adding that, the media should not let its guard down to those who are trying to subvert the work of journalists.
