The Ghana School of Law is taking steps toward addressing the acute space inadequacies restricting the number of students being admitted to pursue professional law courses in the country.
The School projects that with the measures being adopted by government and management in this regard, additional space would have been created to clear the backlog of qualified prospective students by the next three years.
The Coordinator of the Kumasi Campus of the Ghana School of Law, Michael Gyan Owusu made this known to a section of the media on the fringes of a ceremony to formally admit fresh students to undertake professional legal education.
Nicholas Osei-Wusu and Georgina Serwaa Agyei in this report say 107 Post LLB students have been formally admitted into the Ghana School of Law to undergo a 2-Year training on the Kumasi Campus.
This brings to 287 the total student population on the Campus to study Interpretation of Deeds and Statutes, Alternative Dispute Resolution, Family Law and Practice, Civil and Criminal Procedure among other courses.
The Ashanti Regional President of the Ghana Bar Association, Kwame Owusu Sekyere, asked the students to resist any temptation to project themselves as legal luminaries because despite their status, their conduct could be matters of interest of the Ghana Legal Council.
Head of Department of the Law Faculty of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Professor Lydia Apori Nkansah, reminded the student lawyers of the requirement to conduct themselves and live above reproach, particularly exhibiting professionalism in dealing with clients.
In an interview, the Coordinator of the Kumasi Campus of the Ghana School of Law, Michael Gyan Owusu, expressed optimism that in the next three years, the School would be able to clear the backlog of qualified prospective students considering the steps being taken by Management to create more space.
