Management of Ghana Link Network Services Limited, operators of Integrated Customs Management Systems (ICUMS), has donated assorted relief items to victims of the recent flood disaster occasioned by the spillage of excess water from the Akosombo Dam by the Volta River Authority at the Agbetikpo Displaced Camp, one of the safe havens in the North Tongu District of the Volta region.
The items, estimated at ₵500,000, are expected to support the upkeep of the displaced people in their recovery process. The truck load of items included, but was not limited to, 250 bags of rice, 100 boxes of oil, 100 pieces of blankets, 300 cartons of bottled water, 50 boxes of sardines, 20 boxes of dettol, 150 pieces of mattresses and pillows, 100 bags of sugar, 200 packs of toilet rolls, and 100 packs of sanitary towels.
The truck load of items was presented to the committee in charge of the disbursement of items at Agbetikpo, one of the safe havens in the North Tongu District, for onward distribution to the victims across the district.
The Company also presented a cash amount of ₵50, 000 to the management of the evacuation camps to aid them in their daily activities.
Presenting the items, the Director of Operations at Ghana Link Network Services Limited, Mr. Raymond Amaglo, said the gesture was borne out of the company’s drive to seek the welfare of Ghanaians in times of need and part of their Corporate Social Responsibility.
He expressed the hope that the relief items will go a long way towards alleviating the plights of the displaced people who are in dire need of assistance.
Mr. Amaglo pledged that the company will return to make further and additional donations to support improving the living conditions of the victims. “The conditions they are living under are very dire, and at this moment, no donation is too big or too small. Every little help we can give to our family who are here, I will like to encourage us all to come together and help. We are engaging the leaders of the community, the Member of Parliament, and other stakeholders to see how we can do even more for them. So yes, we will want to come back and see what more we can do,” he said.
Statistics from the National Disaster Management Organisation indicate that the North Tongu District is the most devastated area hit by the disaster, with over 12 thousand people displaced and 21 evacuation camps.
