The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Letsa has called on indigenous and local and foreign investors to partner the Regional Coordinating Council in its drive to put the region on the world map as one of the best places for tourism.
He said despite being home to numerous tourist sites and beautiful landscape and ecosystem, the region has not seen any significant development in its tourism sector.
Dr Letsa therefore urged investors to harness its full potential to create jobs for the youth.
He was speaking at Wli (Vli) in the Hohoe Municipality where the 2021 World Tourism Day was commemorated by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
The 2021 World Tourism Day was themed “Tourism for Inclusive Growth”.
The Volta Region which is often described as a microcosm of Ghana was chosen for the celebration to promote its plethora of tourism potentials which have not been fully tapped.
These include an ancient European fort, bio-diverse forests, pristine beaches, mountains with a lot of waterfalls, a unique monkey sanctuary, mysterious caves among others.
Wli (Vli) in the Hohoe Municipality where the ceremony was held has Wli Waterfalls, the highest in West Africa. Other tourist sites in the Municipality include Tagbo falls and Afadjato, the highest mountain in the country.
The Volta Regional Minister, Dr Archibald Yao Letsa is hopeful that tourism can generate adequate revenue in the region if the private sector invests in the sector.
He pledged the support of the Regional Coordinating Council in such ventures.
The Minister for Railway Development, John Peter Amewu who is also the Member of Parliament for Hohoe, appealed to Ghanaians to participate in the government’s afforestation programme to improve upon the country’s eco-system.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mark Okraku Mantey pledged the Ministry’s continued support to enhance the tourism sector.
Officials from the Ghana Tourism Authority and other stakeholders called on indigenous and foreign tourists to visit the Volta Region to experience its unique tourists’ sites.
