An Advisor to the Minister of Food and Agriculture, George Oduro, has called for an engagement between the ministry of agriculture and Agricultural businesses, on how to deal with the issue of high cost of food stuffs on the market.

Mr. Oduro made the comment on GBC’s Current Affairs programme, Talking Point, which discussed the Planting for Food Market in Accra.

He is optimistic that the PFJ market will influence prices of farm produce on the open market.

The General Secretary of the General Agricultural Workers Union, GAWU, Edward Kareweh, said with the general outlook of the economy affecting agriculture, there is the need to review the agriculture production system and the planting for Food programme.

He called on the Food and Agriculture Ministry to concentrate on how to procure cheap material for farmers, and not to take over the work of buffer stock companies and Middlemen.

For his part, the Chief Executive Officer, CEO, of Chamber of Agribusiness, Anthony Morrison, said though the intention of the PFJ Market is good, he wonders if it can be sustained.

He called for proactive policies to drive the Agricultural sector.
