Ghana is preparing to introduce commercial quantities of Genetically Modified cowpea on the market in the next two years.

This is seen as a major step to officially accepting genetically modified food despite the huge public outcry over the possible negative consequences of consuming GMO’s.

Already samples of the GMO cowpea have been sent to Kenya for final verification after which a committee will be set up to give approval.

This came to light at a forum to discuss the prospects for GMO’s in Ghana where biosafety experts refuted claims that the consumption of GMO’s have serious health implications and will lead to food slavery.
