The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, has announced that the Ghana Boundary Commission has reaffirmed 150 kilometres of the country’s land boundary with Côte d’Ivoire, with plans to complete an additional 200 kilometres before the end of the year.
Speaking at the Government Accountability Series at the Jubilee House on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, Mr. Buah said the Commission has made significant progress in protecting Ghana’s territorial integrity while strengthening cooperation with neighbouring countries during the first half of 2026.
He said the boundary reaffirmation exercise was carried out jointly with Côte d’Ivoire and led to the construction of 37 boundary pillars by the 48 Engineer Regiment of the Ghana Armed Forces.
According to the Minister, the remaining 200 kilometres of the boundary will be reaffirmed by the close of the year to further improve border security and cooperation between the two countries.
Mr. Buah noted that Ghana and Côte d’Ivoire have transformed their past maritime boundary dispute into a strong partnership, allowing both countries to work closely on boundary management and other areas of mutual interest.
He also disclosed that the Ghana Boundary Commission and its counterpart in Burkina Faso have held several bilateral meetings and established a joint technical committee to strengthen collaboration on boundary issues.
The Minister said the Commission, working together with the Ghana Navy, conducted an independent patrol of Ghana’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) during the second quarter of 2026 to protect the country’s maritime territory.
He added that a joint maritime patrol with Côte d’Ivoire is scheduled for the third quarter of the year in line with the 2017 International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea ruling.
Mr. Buah said the government’s objective is to deepen cooperation with neighbouring countries, ensure that Ghana’s boundaries are clearly defined and protected, and promote peaceful relations along the country’s borders.
He commended the Ghana Boundary Commission and its partner agencies for their efforts, describing their work as a major contribution to safeguarding Ghana’s sovereignty and national security.
