Government has secured a total amount of $125 million from the World Bank to undertake water and sanitation projects at Kumasi in Ashanti Region and in the Greater Accra Region as part of efforts to make Ghana clean.

$50 million out of the money is allocated to construct 30,000 household toilets. Already 2,000 toilet facilities have been constructed.

The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Cecilia Abena Daapah, disclosed this to journalists at a sensitisation session on the significance of project implementation and its significance.

“Nationwide, 140 thousand household toilets are to be constructed, all in an effort to address open defecation,’’ she stated

The Minister stressed the government’s determination to address water and Sanitation challenges across the country. She was not happy with the level of siltation of the owabi/RE/ river and hinted about government plans to secure funds to dredge it to meet the water needs of the people of Kumasi.
