China and the U.S. have provided Ghana with medical supplies to test and control the spread of the coronavirus. But the public is apprehensive about the effectiveness and standards of these supplies.

GBC’s Radio Ghana finds out from the Public Affairs Director of the Ghana Standards Authority, Dr. Kofi Amponsah Bediako, whether these medical supplies are verified through testing before they deploy them to the medical facilities for use.

He said all supplies are tested before they are released for use.

“When these gadgets or medical suppliers come in, we take samples and send them in institutions that ought to examine them. If you take a look at the infrared thermometers for example, all of them cannot be tested at the same time but what we do is that we take samples.”

“As I speak, some samples are being tested at the Standards Authority and the same thing is done to other gadgets like the PPEs. All these things are tested for us to see.”

“It’s through these things that we are able to know those that are genuine and others that are not. So far, we have not come across any item that has failed the test and so we presume that the gadgets that are coming in are all up to standard.”

He assured the public that all the suppliers from China and the U.S. have been tested.
