The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, in collaboration with the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), will host the second edition of the UNCITRAL Days in Africa 2023 under the theme “The Use of UNCITRAL Texts in Africa, Trends and Prospects” on Monday, November 27, 2023, in Accra.

A statement by the Ministry said the event will feature a seminar on Investor State Dispute Settlement (ISDS) Reform, and a panel discussion on the effects of Climate Change on Global Trade and Digital Economy in the light of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) protocol on digital trade.

The keynote speaker will be the Deputy Attorney-General and Deputy Minister for Justice, Hon. Diana Asonaba Dapaah, and the guest speaker will be the Secretary of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, Ms. Anna Joubin-Bret.

The United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL) is the core legal body of the United Nations system in the field of international trade law. Its mandate is to remove legal obstacles to international trade by progressively modernising and harmonising trade law. It prepares legal texts in a number of key areas, such as international commercial dispute settlement, electronic commerce, insolvency, international payments, sale of goods, transport law, procurement, and infrastructure development. UNCITRAL also provides technical assistance to law reform activities, including assisting Member States to review and assess their law reform needs and to draft the legislation required to implement UNCITRAL texts.
