Lusaka, Zambia – President John Dramani Mahama says Ghana and Zambia are set to strengthen bilateral cooperation with the signing of eight Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs), including a landmark visa waiver agreement between the two countries.

According to the President, the visa waiver agreement will allow Ghanaians to travel to Zambia without a visa, while Zambians will also enjoy visa-free travel to Ghana, a move expected to boost trade, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges.

Speaking during an engagement with the Ghanaian diaspora in Lusaka as part of his three-day state visit,

President Mahama pointed out that Ghana and Zambia share similar economic and natural resource profiles, particularly in the mining sector, and face common challenges such as environmental degradation and illegal mining activities.

He emphasized these shared experiences provide an opportunity for both countries to exchange ideas and collaborate on sustainable resource management.

The President also indicated that Ghana will advance its policy position on natural resource sovereignty, arguing that African countries must take greater control of their resources as traditional development aid declines.

He noted that reductions in humanitarian assistance by developed countries underscores the need for African nations to rely more on their own resources to support development.

The three-day state visit is expected to deepen diplomatic ties between Ghana and Zambia and advance cooperation across key sectors of mutual interest.
