President of the Ghana Association of ADR Practitioners (GNAAP) Daniel Owusu-Koranteng, has called for the use of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) to resolve conflicts as well as promote access to justice for all Ghanaians.
He said Ghana has been recognized as a key actor in peacebuilding initiative, conflict resolution and management efforts in Africa and globally and that everything possible must be done to sustain it.
Mr Owusu-Koranteng made the call at the swearing-in of the new executive officers of the association in Accra.
The association has Mr Owusu-Koranteng as President, Mr Wogbe Atta Dogoe, Vice President, Mr Mark Anderson, General Secretary and Madam Anatasia Asamoah-Gyimah, Deputy General Secretary.
Other members are Mr Efui Tamakloe Appenkorang, Project Officer, Nana Adu Yeboah, Accounts Officer/Treasurer, Nii Armah Ashitey, Organizer, Mr Isaac Asare, Public Relations Officer and Mr Alex Nartey, Patron.
The mandate of the officers for the next three years would among other things promote alternative dispute resolution as a tool for peacebuilding in the country.
He said the executives had the task to position GNAAP as the foremost ADR professional regulator body to champion the implementation of the provision in ADR Act 2010 (Act 798).
The President said there was the need for advocacy for the establishment of ADR Centre to facilitate the practice of alternative dispute resolution.
Mr Owusu-Koranteng said the composition of ADR Centre without representation from an ADR professional body was a gap and GNAAP would lead the advocacy for the review of the Act.
Mr Robert Mensah, Outgoing President thanked members of the association for their support during his tenure of office and urged the new executives to work very hard to raise the image of the association to a higher level.
