Government Statistician, Prof. Samuel Kobina Annim, says Ghana’s population is currently 30.8 million, with women representing 50.7%, and men 49.3%.

He announced this at the presentation of the provisional figures of the 2021 Population and Housing Census in Accra on Wednesday, September 22, 2021.

Prof. Annim, said the Greater Accra Region is now the most populous region in the country.

Ghana’s 2021 PHC:  30.8M, Women 50.7%, Men 49.3%

“We continue to see that Ghana has more females than males specifically having 50.7 per cent of our population being females and 49.3 percent being males. It is important that these males and females vary significantly across the 16 administrative Regions. Although at the National level, we see a percentage change of 1.4 between females and males, we see variations across the 16 administrative Regions.”

Prof. Annim, said with the more than 10 million structures enumerated, about 8 million are fully completed with roof, windows and doors fixed. However, 1 out of every 5 structures listed has not been fully completed.

He said metal containers, kiosks and wooden structures constitute 20% of the structures.

Prof. Annim, said the final data of the census which would include details such as age-sex composition, demographic, social and economic profile would be released on the 18th of November, 2021.

“What we intend doing is to put out the report. It is titled “Ghana 2021 Population and Housing Census, the preliminary report. We have seven instruments that captured the population from different sources. The household population, that is persons who spent the 27th night in households and persons who spent the night in non-household populations”, Prof. Samuel Kobina Anim stated.
