The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta says the biggest challenge confronting Ghana is the growing number of unemployed youth. He said with the youth constituting close to eleven million of the country’s population, there must be strategies to extend opportunities to them in an equitable manner. It is on the account of this, that the 2022 Budget seeks to provide the building blocks to make Ghana an entrepreneurial nation.

Mr. Ofori-Atta was speaking in Accra at the launch of the 73rd Annual New Year School and Conference by the University of Ghana, Legon.

The Annual New Year School and Conference at the behest of the School of Continuing and Distance Education since its inception in 1948 has served as the catalyst for discussion on national issues. The theme for the 73rd edition is, ”Covid-19 and socio-economic dynamics in Ghana”. The Minister of Finance Ken Ofori-Atta at the launch repeated his call on the youth to brace themselves up and seek opportunities from the private sector through entrepreneurship.

Dean, School of Continuing and Distance Education, Professor Olivia Kwapong provided a forecast of the event to be staged in 2022.

The Acting Provost, College of Education Professor Martin Oteng-Ababio said the impact of Covid-19 calls for partnership and collaboration among stakeholders.

The New Year School is being envisaged as a platform that can help to stimulate an engaging conversation for the attainment of common goals.
