Caretaker Minister of Gender, Children and Social Protection, Cecilia Abena Dapaah, has disclosed that an Inter-ministerial Committee is being constituted to tackle the child beggars menace confronting the country.  She said apart from danger the child beggars are exposed to, they are also a danger to motorists, a reason the problem would be addressed holistically. Madam Dapaah, was speaking with GBC News in Accra.

Most child beggars ply their trade at traffic intersections at the Opeibea Junction, the 37 Military Hospital, the Airport Junction, Abeka Lapaz, Madina, and the Ringroad Central among other areas in the Greater Accra Metropolis to heckle commuters as they solicit alms. This worrying situation has in recent times ignited public conversation on the need to deal decisively with the menace as it is a dent on the country’s image. Madam Dapaah, said although Ghana is open to foreigners, its hospitality must not be taken for granted.
