The Ghana Integrity Initiative, GII has launched the Ghana Integrity Awards in Accra, to honour public officials and institutions who display a high level of integrity in their line of work.

This forms part of preparations by the GII to commemorate 20 years of sensitization and advocacy in the fight against corruption.

Executive Director of GII, Mrs. Linda Ofori-Kwarfo said the awards scheme is a strategic and sustainable response to the fight against corruption in the country.

She added that the awards will not be monetary in nature. The awards is open to only public institutions.

The LOGO

The logo for the awards was also unveiled. The logo is made up of a star with a stand suspending over the emblem of the GII, which is embedded in a circle with blue and white as predominant colors.

Stakeholders at the launch agreed on the importance of highlighting individuals and groups who display high level of integrity and anti-corrupt practices rather than focusing on naming and shaming corrupt officials.

Executive Director of the GII, Mrs Linda Ofori-Kwarfo was hopeful that award winners will serve as a source of inspiration to the anti-corruption movement.

“The Ghana Integrity Awards is an incentive strategy consistent with Transparency International’s Annual integrity awards presented to an individual or an organisation adjudged to have exhibited excellent integrity in their fields of endeavour while contributing to the fight against corruption….we are not going to give out money any individual that participates in the awards process. We will acknowledge and make you known to the world, and you can be a member of Transparency International”.

A Research Consultant with GII, Brian Dzansi explained the award process.

“We have five categories in all, the first one is Public Policy and Administration reforms, Transparent ad Social Accountability, Effective Public Service Delivery, Effective enforcement category and the Integrity Personality of the year”
