GJA awards GBC- Radio Central for meritorious contribution to developing the Region

The Ghana Journalists Association at its 23rd Awards recognized GBC-Radio Central in Cape Coast for meritorious contribution to development of the region. The station is credited for its educative, informative and insightful programmes including “Akuafo Kyefa” Agricultural programme designed to educate and inform farmers and Fishermen on modern methods of farming, also find out concerns of fishermen and farmers and contribute to addressing them Resource persons are usually sought from the Department of Agriculture , Faculty of Agriculture, University of Cape Coast,. The fisher folks and traditional authority in Cape Coast and surrounding areas are also relied upon.

Another program, “Effie mu nsem” is a social programme that discusses day to day family issues in households. People are asked to send in critical family and marriage issues that often contribute to divorce and chaos in relationships in general. These issues are often addressed by technical persons, such as; Marriage Counselors, Religious leaders and other Specialists with knowledge in the said subject matter. Listeners are also allowed time to share their experiences on the matters and advice.

Another programme that is impacting positively on the station’s listeners is “Health Quarters.” It is designed to educate the public on health issues. Health practitioners are brought into the studious to educate the public on how to live healthy lifestyles to prevent diseases.

Centre Stage: Saturday night current affairs programme that looks at some critical social and political issues that made the Headlines within the week. Here Political party representatives, social commentators and policy makers are mainly the resource persons. The public are also asked to be part of the programme through calls in to make contributions.

Central Drive is the late afternoon programme that is aired daily from 4pm to 6pm. What makes the programme different from others is the popular interview segment where artists like; Shata Wale, Stone buoy, Samini, Obrafuor, Sarkodie and others are featured. A novel for the station.

Central Worship is also one of the flagship programmes of the station. It is aired from 2pm to 3pm. The programme features worship groups from different churches, Gospel Artists and individuals who come to the studious live with their instruments to worship with the station’s audience. The listeners are also allowed to be part of the worship through call in to share some inspirational words and worship God. This is a novel for Radio Central.

Radio Central has positioned itself to be the Top Radio Station in the Central Region given its Total and Central sports program, the National and Local News Bulletins and to top it up, magazine programmes like “Ghana Today”. Responses from discerning listeners have been phenomenal over the years and Radio Central is committed to providing more and better content too its audience; – the people of Cape Coast and beyond. Thanks to the Ghana Journalists Association for Adjudging GBC’S Radio Central as one the BEST Stations contributing to Development in Ghana.
