GJA extends deadline for nomination for Media Awards 2019

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has extended the deadline for filing of nominations for the 24th GJA Media Awards from Friday, July 26, 2019 to Friday, August 9, 2019. That’s according to a statement signed and issued by the GJA’s General Secretary,Kofi Yeboah.

The opening of the 24th GJA Media Awards was officially announced by the President of the GJA at the launch of the Association’s 70th Anniversary on May 28, 2019.

It is the highlight of the GJA 70th Anniversary, which is scheduled for Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast.

The awards are open to GJA members working in the Ghanaian media establishments, and cover broadcast or published works from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018.

The statement which was copied to gbcghanaonline said the awards will be given in the following categories:

 

CATEGORY ONE: (Separate Awards for Radio, Television, Print & Online)

• News Reporting

• Sports

• Education

• Features

• Small-Scale Illegal Mining (Galamsey)

• Maritime

 

CATEGORY TWO: (Awards cater for Print & Electronic)

• Investigative Reporting

• Photojournalism

• Arts/Entertainment

• Domestic Tourism

• Business/Finance & Economic Reporting

• Small and Micro Scale Enterprises (SMEs)

• Environment

• Health

• Development Journalism for furthering the SDGs

• Child Protection & Participation (World Vision)

• Crime & Court Reporting

• Human Rights

• Political Reporting

• Sanitation & Hygiene

• Disability

• ICT & Digital Journalism (including Blogging)

• Anti-Corruption

• Science

• Oil & Gas

• adb Special Award for Agriculture

 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

The competition is open to members working in the print (News Agency inclusive), electronic and on-line media in Ghana.

Category Five of the Awards is open to students of journalism training institutions accredited by the National Accreditation Board, whose works were published during the period under review.

The objective is to encourage them to pursue professional excellence even before graduating from school.

The statement further said members of the National Executive and the Awards Committee are not eligible to contest. Entrants must meet the following additional requirements:

1. Entries should cover works published from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2018;

2. Entrants may submit entries for a maximum of TWO CATEGORIES, and NOT MORE THAN THREEpublished works should  be submitted for each category;

3. However, one work SHALL NOTbe entered in MORE THAN ONE CATEGORY;

4. Entrants should submit CLEAR ORIGINAL published work and TEN (10)photocopies of each entry;

5. All entries must show the date of publication/broadcast and the medium in which the work was published. News Agency stories carried by the conventional media or on the Internet shall be considered as published;

6. Radio and TV entrants should submit ONE AUDIO RECORDING(CD/DVD) in addition to TEN (10) AUTHENTICATED COPIESof the original broadcast script;

7. Photographic and cartoon entries are subjected to the same requirements as print entries;

8. Every entry should clearly indicate the category of competition and must bear the name, address, and telephone number of the entrant;

9. For all the awards under Category Four, entries will be considered alongside nominations by the public (including media practitioners), and

10. Under Category Six– Most Promising Young Journalist and Journalist of the Year – GJA members and the general public are invited to nominate candidates, giving reason(s) for their nomination in not more than 120 words.

The extended deadline for the submission of entries is 5:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2019.

“The GJA is NOT bound to give an award in a category if it does not merit one.” The statement concluded.
