The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), and the Ghana Export Promotion Council (GEPA), have envisioned an array of opportunities to train Journalists in International Trade Reportage.
This vision was born out of a meeting held in Accra.
The meeting was part of the Ghana Journalists Association’s plan by the Leadership to re-engage with stakeholders and partners whose contributions are integral to press freedom and by extension to national development.
President of the GJA, Albert Dwumfour led the team to the Ghana Ghana Export Promotion Council (GEPA), in Accra.
He was accompanied by his Vice President, Linda Asante Agyei; Public Affairs Officer, Rebecca Ekpe; Organizing Secretary, Dominic Hlodzi; and Treasurer, Audrey Dekalu.
The Team from GEPA was led by its Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Afua Asabea Asare.
She was joined by the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Samuel Dentu; and Director of Public Relations, Ruth Maafo.
Mr. Dwumfour in outlining GJA’s agenda, put capacity building as topmost when it comes to the issues of welfare of journalists.
He welcomed the opportunity being created by GEPA, which would contribute to ensuring that Journalists are better educated on matters of International Trade.
”This would curb or eliminate yellow journalism, for us building the capacity of journalists is key and therefore any form of support in this direction is certainly appreciated,” the GJA President noted.
GEPA’s position is that Export would be the answer to Ghana’s current challenges and the Media can be a partner in communicating this message.
”We need to bring the export discussion to the table, everyone must be part,” said Deputy CEO, Samuel Dentu.
Journalists would therefore be given the opportunity to be part of GEPA’s Export Schools.
CEO, Dr. Efua Asabea Asare, said the GJA participants would be sponsored to be part of the school with the view of serving as advocates for International Trade in Ghana.
“You are our best ally in this work that we do, ……the fact that you have come to visit us is a good thing……..without you we cannot tell our story,” Dr. Asabea posited.
