The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has reconstituted its statutory committees as part of efforts to strengthen the Association’s governance, professional development, member engagement and strategic programmes.
The move, undertaken in accordance with Articles 30, 31 and 32 of the GJA’s 2004 Constitution, is expected to support the National Executive in carrying out its constitutional mandate and advancing the interests of journalists across the country.
In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the GJA, Dominic Hlordzi, the Association said the newly constituted committees bring together experienced journalists, media managers and professionals whose expertise will contribute to the growth and development of the body.
“The reconstituted committees bring together seasoned journalists, media managers and experienced professionals whose expertise and commitment will contribute significantly to advancing the objectives of the Association,” the statement said.
The five statutory committees are the Membership Vetting Committee, Professional Development Committee, Social Affairs Committee, International Relations Committee, and the Finance and Resource Mobilisation Committee.
The Membership Vetting Committee will be chaired by GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour. Its members are veteran journalist formerly with the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Kissi Yeboah; Editor-in-Chief of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Seth Eyiah; Editor of Daily Dispatch Newspaper, Peter Ankomah; and Peace FM presenter, Nana Yaa Konadu.
The Professional Development Committee will be chaired by GJA Vice President Rebecca Ekpe. Members include former GJA General Secretary and lecturer at Wisconsin International University College, Kofi Yeboah; Assistant Editor at the New Times Corporation, Cliff Ekufful; Chief Editor of the Ghana News Agency (GNA), George Ramsey Benamba; and Head of Joy Brands at the Multimedia Group, Kweku Owusu Peprah.
The Social Affairs Committee will be headed by GJA Organising Secretary Suleiman Mustapha. Members are GBC Editor Isaac Owusu Asare; former GJA Vice President Linda Asante Agyei; Editor of Daily Analyst Newspaper, Isaac Nuamah Yeboah; and Editor of UTV at Despite Media Group, Maame Efua Mensah.
The International Relations Committee will be chaired by GJA General Secretary Dominic Hlordzi. It includes Foreign Editor at the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Mary Mensah; freelance journalist Zambaga Rufai; Deputy News Editor at the Ghana News Agency (GNA), Ken Sackey; and Editor of The Publisher Newspaper, Yaw Obeng Manu.
The Finance and Resource Mobilisation Committee will be chaired by GJA Treasurer Bertha Badu Agyei. Members are Director of Corporate Affairs and External Relations at the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF), Charles Benoni Okine; former GJA Treasurer Audrey Dekalu; Senior Manager at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Nii Odartey Lamptey; and Deputy News Editor at the Graphic Communications Group Limited, Michael Ocquaye.
The GJA said it is confident that the committees will bring their diverse experience and expertise to bear in promoting professionalism, improving member engagement and supporting key initiatives of the Association.
“The National Executive is confident that the wealth of experience, professionalism and diverse expertise of the committee members will strengthen the work of the Association, promote high professional standards, deepen member engagement and support the implementation of strategic programmes for the benefit of journalists nationwide,” the statement said.
The committees will officially be sworn into office on Monday, August 17, 2026, during the GJA’s 77th Anniversary Lecture and Symposium at the British Council in Accra.
The Association expressed appreciation to all members who accepted the call to serve, describing their commitment as a demonstration of their dedication to advancing journalism and improving the welfare of media practitioners in Ghana.
The GJA said it will work closely with the committees to promote ethical journalism, safeguard press freedom, enhance the welfare of journalists and strengthen the Association as the foremost professional body for journalists in Ghana.
