GMA and Christian Council urges church leaders to strictly enforce COVID-19 protocols at watchnight services

The Ghana Medical Association GMA has called on the leadership of churches to ensure that COVID-19 safety protocols are adhered to ahead of the watchnight service tonight.

This according to the association will help prevent the spread of the coronavirus. General Secretary of the GMA Dr. Justice Yankson said churches should not use the watchnight service as an excuse to overcrowd their auditoriums, adding that the onus lies on the leadership of churches to ensure that churchgoers adhere to the safety protocols especially as large numbers are expected in churches tonight.

The Christian Council of Ghana has also appealed to Christians, many of whom are expected to attend watchnight service tonight to observe the Covid-19 safety protocols.

This is in reaction to concerns of overcrowding in Churches as many Christians are expected to attend watchnight service to usher in the new year. General Secretary of the Council Rev.

Cyril Fayose said although most churches already observe the protocols, extra attention is needed in anticipation of the large numbers. He was hopeful 2021 will see the end of the COVID-19 pandemic.
