The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Gold Board, Sammy Gyamfi has announced that the Board will donate five Toyota Hilux pickups and GHS5 million to the National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) to strengthen the fight against galamsey.

Speaking at the Mining and Mineral Conversion Conference in Accra on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, Mr Gyamfi said the donation is part of the Gold Board’s commitment to supporting government efforts to end illegal mining and promote responsible mining practices.

He explained that the Gold Board recognises the importance of responsible mining to the long-term sustainability of Ghana’s mining sector and is determined to play an active role in restoring ecological balance. In line with this, the Board has also set aside funds to reclaim 1,000 hectares of degraded forest reserves starting in November 2025.

Mr Gyamfi further disclosed that from October this year, the Board will roll out its corporate social responsibility policy, which will provide potable water, modern schools, health facilities and scholarships for brilliant but needy students in mining communities.

He also highlighted the Board’s support for the cooperative mining scheme launched by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources, aimed at formalising the artisanal and small-scale mining sector while creating jobs and increasing national gold output.

According to him, the Gold Board has launched a Mining Support Programme to attract direct investment into environmentally friendly mining equipment. As part of this initiative, the Board has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Goldstream Global DMCC to invest up to $1 billion in responsible mining projects across Ghana.

Mr Gyamfi assured that these efforts will not only increase Ghana’s gold output but also create thousands of jobs while ensuring that the benefits of mining reach local communities.
