Deputy Minister Nominee for Sanitation and Water Resources, Amidu Chinnia Issahaku, says government cannot employ more than thirty percent of Ghanaians into the public sector.

He said there is no country in the world that succeeded in employing more than thirty percent of its working class in the public sector.

Mr. Chinnia Issahaku who is also former Deputy Upper West Regional Minister said Ghana can surmount the unemployment challenge when Technical Universities adhere to their core mandate of training skilled human resources.

He was speaking at the Second Congregation of the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University at Wa.

Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University was established in 1999 as a Polytechnic. However, it was not until 2002 that the Interim Governing Council was appointed by government to provide policy direction to the school.

Following the passing of the Technical University Act, 2016 (Act 922), Technical University Amendment Act 2018 and 2020, the Wa Polytechnic was converted into a Technical University.

The Deputy Minister Nominee for Sanitation and Water Resources, Amidu Chinnia Issahaku urged Ghanaians to reflect on happenings in China, Europe, and America, explaining that those countries have managed unemployment by investing massively in skills development.

He said Ghana can also overcome its unemployment concerns if Technical Institutions focus on their mandate.

The Interim Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Baba Insah revealed that the Dr. Hilla Limann Technical University lacks hostel for students.

The Governing Council Chairman for the University, Professor Daniel Bagah called on management, Lecturers and students to remain united and project the good name of the University to the outside world. Three hundred and eleven students graduated with Higher National Diplomas, with John Bosco Kuunibe emerging the overall best graduating student, whilst the best female student award went to Ruth Abaidoo.
