Government has confirmed that a recent terrorist attack in Titao in Burkina Faso has claimed the lives of eight Ghanaian nationals.

A statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on February 17, 2026, said seven members of the Ghana National Tomatoes Traders and Transporters Association who were engaged in lawful trading activities in the area were initially killed in the February 14, 2026 jihadist attack. An eighth victim, who had sustained serious injuries and was undergoing treatment, has also succumbed.

President John Mahama has conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families and condemned the attack, describing it as a “mindless act of terror.”

He also expressed solidarity with the Government and people of Burkina Faso, stressing the need for renewed collective regional security efforts to combat violent extremism within the sub-region.

On the President’s instructions, an air medical evacuation of the injured Ghanaian victims has been undertaken by the Ghana Air Force, with the victims expected to arrive in Ghana later today.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced new travel guidelines for Ghanaians intending to visit high-risk areas within the sub-region. Citizens planning essential travel have been advised to first contact the Ministry or Ghana’s diplomatic missions for guidance.
