Government, MPs from Kusaw Traditional Area condemn enskinment of rival chief in Bawku

Members of Parliament (MPs) from the Kusaw Traditional Area in the Upper East region have condemned the purported enskinment of a rival chief in Bawku.

They say the move will only aggravate the precarious security situation in the area.

The six MPs are Mahama Ayariga, Bawku Central, Cletus Avoka, Zebillah, and Abanga Abdulai, Binduri. The rest are Laadi Ayi Ayamba, Pusiga, Lydia Asibi Akanvariba, Timpani and Albert Akuka Alalzuuga, Garu.

While commending government for swiftly condemning the enskinment of a new chief, it called on it to make sure the individual is not made to carry himself as chief.

MP for Zebillah Cletus Avoka spoke for the group.

Meanwhile,  Government has condemned the purported enskinment of a new Bawku Naba describing it as illegal and a threat to National Security.

Government further re-iterates that Naba Asigri Abugrago Azoka is the Bawku Naba, duly gazetted and a member of the National and Upper East Regional Houses of Chiefs.

A statement signed by the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, said the security agencies have therefore been directed to arrest and prosecute any other person who holds himself out as a Bawku Naba.

It said that any developments that have the potential to undermine the peace of Bawku will also be dealt with swiftly and in accordance with the law.
