Government has ruled out  engaging the separatist group, Home Land Study Group which is seeking the independence of some parts of the Volta Region.

Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia said the group’s plans of a Western Togoland territory is a figment of their imagination.

Speaking on an Accra-based FM station, the Vice President described the actions of the group as  criminal and must be condemned by all.

Some security analysts have called on the government to negotiate with the group in order not to escalate things in the Volta region.

But Dr. Bawumia said any negotiation will open up  for others to move similar agenda adding that Government will not sit in the negotiating table with criminals.

He described as unfortunate attempts by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to politicize the issue.

The NDC in a statement said what’s happening in the Volta region is an attempt by government to suppress votes.

Dr. Bawumia however said, the track record of the Government will help them to win power and not suppressing votes.
