Sunday, June 20, was marked throughout the world as Father’s day.

In a statement to commemorate the day, the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection said the celebration of Father’s Day is opportune because fathers contribute immensely to socio-economic development of their families and the nation and therefore need to be celebrated.

According to the statement, Father’s Day has been given little attention despite the significant roles fathers play, therefore the Ministry and other major stakeholders will develop special programmes to support the needs and development of Fathers to enable them to play effective roles in their households.

The statement also congratulated all single Fathers on redefining the roles of Fatherhood and entreated fathers who have abandoned their responsibilities towards their families to renew their mindset and take up leadership roles.
