President John Dramani Mahama has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to expanding affordable and efficient public transport systems across the country.

Opening a three-day Transport and Logistics Fair in Accra, he said government is also putting in place a strong regulatory framework to ensure the safe and responsible operation of motorbikes and tricycles for passenger service.

President Mahama said all these efforts form part of a broader plan anchored on safety, orderliness, and sustainability.

The fair, hosted by the Ministry of Transport and organised by Digital Eye, is on the theme: “Resetting Ghana’s Transport Sector for Improved Connectivity, Innovation and Investment.”

Describing the exhibition as a landmark event, the President said it reflects a bold national determination to reset and transform Ghana’s transport and logistics systems through modernity, innovation, and sustainability.

He said under the Reset Agenda, government is committed to decarbonising the transport sector, expanding electric mobility infrastructure, and promoting climate-smart investments to lower emissions and protect the environment.

The Minister of Transport, Joseph Bukari Nikpe, said the ministry is on course to establish a national airline and has introduced new passenger information systems to enhance safety and security.

He added that expansion works are ongoing at Kotoka International Airport, along with the rehabilitation of the Tema Harbour breakwater and plans to modernise public transport through Metro Mass Transit and Intercity STC.

The Paramount Chief of Asogli, Togbe Afede XIV, commended the government for sustaining economic stability and called for continued investment in the transport sector to create jobs for the youth.

The three-day fair serves as a platform for innovation and partnership, reaffirming Ghana’s commitment to building a modern, safe, and connected transport system that drives growth and national development.

  1. The motorbike should be completely abolished as some use them for criminality.
Why I’m I saying this; people’s mobile phones are being snatched, and the overtaking they make causes accidents on the road thereby claiming more lives. or leaving victims with life changing conditions.
