The President of the National Fisheries Association of Ghana (NAFAG), Samuel Nii OkaiKwei has called on government to provide fishmongers at the Tema Fishing Harbour a proper drying place for their anchovies, popularly known as ‘Keta school boys’.
Speaking during a tour of the Fishing Harbour by the Parliamentary Committee on Food, Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs, Mr. Kwei said the anchovies usually dried on the bare ground, are washed away any time it rains.
He explained that although authorities at the Port introduced an alternative drying system, it was not efficient enough. He pleaded for a more efficient system to help them in drying the anchovies.
The Vice Chairman of the Committee and Member of Parliament for Twifo Ati Mokwaa, Abraham Dwuma Odoom pledged to relay their plea to Parliament.
