The Minister for the Interior, Ambrose Dery, says it is not the remit of government to get involved in any chieftaincy matter in the country and the Bolgatanga Chieftaincy dispute is no exception.

He said government does not determine who becomes a Chief but all it seeks to do is to make sure that activities of the disagreement do not degenerate into violence.

The Minister said government’s position in chieftaincy disputes particularly the Bolgatanga dispute is to keep security off the area and leave the issues to the traditional authorities including the Judicial Committee of the National House of Chiefs and the law court.

Mr Dery who made the assertion at a REGSEC Meeting in Bolgatanga as part of his working visits across the country also called on the feuding factions to accept any ruling that will come from the Tamale High Court.
