The Government, through the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, has distributed 400 bags of fertilizer to two Muslim communities in Tamale as part of efforts to support selected groups under its National Care Initiative.
The Tamale Central Mosque and the Ambariya Muslim Community each received 200 bags of fertilizer.
This marks the first time such support has been extended to Muslim groups in Tamale. According to the Ministry, the intervention is aimed at supporting Muslim Imams, leaders and teachers who engage in farming as a side activity to support their families and communities.
Presenting the items on behalf of the Ministry, the Managing Director of Produce Buying Company (PBC) Shea and Board Chair of the Seed Council, Abubakar Abdul Moumin, said the intervention is intended to boost the beneficiaries’ farming activities.

The General Secretary of the Ambariya Muslim Community, Dr Issa Yakubu Abdallah, who received the items on behalf of the leadership, commended the government for the support.
“The Mallams are not only teaching Arabic and Islamic studies but also engage in farming as a side job, which is beneficial to them,” he said.
Press Secretary and Director of the Ambariya Sunni Community, Mohammed Mubarak, said the timing of the distribution was crucial.
“The fertilizers have come at the right time when we need them. Giving out fertilizer means we are taking care of an entire community because each beneficiary has a household to support,” he said.
