Gov’t to offer bail out to Produce Buying Company

Government is to offer a bail out to Produce Buying Company, PBC to revamp its operations.

Addressing PBC staff after they demonstrated at the premises of the Head Office of the Company in Accra, the General Secretary of the Industrial and Commercial Workers Union, Solomon Kotei, said the move has become necessary as more than ten thousand jobs risk being lost.

He said the PBC is an inevitable player in the cocoa value chain, hence a threat to its survival, would not only be detrimental to staff but all other players in the value chain.

Mr. Kotei urged staff to play a watch dog role as the progress of the Company will have a positive impact on them as well.

Chairman of the Professional and Managerial Staff Union, Prince Saviour Gankui commended government for the swift intervention to resource PBC.

When contacted, the Chief Executive of PBC, Kofi Owusu Boateng said contrary to allegations of mismanagement, he believes the problems of the Company are self-inflicted.
